About

How did we come up with the name “The Rock in Review” for this website? We talked about our “big picture” concepts for Little Rock’s first hyperlocal news and information website; we got suggestions from others involved in Little Rock’s online community; we thought back to the early days of the internet (when CompuServe and GEnie were born as “communities” that created a sense of “belonging” for members) and we looked to the future, trying to anticipate changes in technology that would facilitate our plans.

All of that led us to the concept of a website community that would allow members to contribute and comment on anything happening in the area: reviewing anything around The Rock.  We didn’t want to limit contributions in any way; we wanted to encourage members to help us define what the Little Rock area finds most interesting.  Is it Breaking News?  Is is Weather?  How about Sports or Entertainment?  Is it text? Or pictures? Or video? We think it’s all of that and more! With the explosion of social media, we’re opening the door for Twitter and Facebook users to easily take part in The Rock in Review. With the ability to snap pictures and shoot video clips on multiple devices, we worked hard to make it easy for members to do some multimedia reporting.

“we wanted to encourage members to help us define what the Little Rock area finds most interesting”

Love this concept and idea. Can’t wait to see what comes of this.
